FITNESS AND COGNITIVE SCIENCE

Fitness INTEREST

Health and fitness is another passion of mine.  I am frequently seen at the gym, powerlifting and exercising to stay in shape and improve my riding. Through rehab exercises that have treated my injuries, I learned to care for the needs of my body.

As I lifted heavier weights to strengthen my body, I felt my mental wellness improving as well. The journey of health and fitness is not just about the physical aspect, but also about the mental and emotional aspects. I am fascinated by the interconnectedness of the body and mind, and am constantly learning and discovering new ways to care for my well-being.

In addition to lifting, another healthy hobby I enjoy is experimenting in the kitchen with nutritious recipes. I find joy in learning about food and nutrition, and Iā€™m always searching for healthy recipes that I can make for my family.  It's not just about eating healthy, but also about the joy of discovering and sharing new things.

ACADEMIC INTERESTS: BODY + MIND

I am fascinated by the interconnectedness between the human body and mind. The ability of our bodies to learn, communicate, experience, and remember the world around us cannot be fully understood through a single point of view or discipline. That's why I'm so excited for college, where I can explore various subjects such as medical and evolutionary anthropology, neuroscience, and biology.

To be honest, I do not yet have the vocabulary to fully express what I want to study in college as I work towards becoming a researcher and medical doctor. However, I am fascinated by new discoveries and fields (new to me, at least) that embrace both the body and mind, and how they may be influenced by the environment. I was particularly excited to learn about Epigenetics, a scientific field that captures this interest. My favorite AP Biology lecture was on Epigenetics, which studies how our environment and behaviors can impact our genes. I am certain that I will be introduced to other new disciplines and topics in the study of the human body and mind, some of which may not have been discovered yet.

I am thrilled to be entering college at a time when new discoveries about the human body and mind are being made, and when the issue of well-being is embraced from an interdisciplinary perspective. As I embark on this journey, I find myself asking: How can I be the positive force?
